What actually strands commercial EVs
Tires lead, by a wide margin. Delivery vehicles run high daily mileage on urban roads with construction debris, curbs, and loading docks, and they run heavy. Tread life on a loaded EDV is short and punctures are frequent.
Twelve-volt batteries come second, and they follow the seasons. Commercial EVs sit with liftgates, telematics, refrigeration, and inverters drawing power, and a cold snap will take out several units in a fleet in the same week. That clustering is a scheduling opportunity: replacing marginal batteries at the yard on a Tuesday is dramatically cheaper than three emergency calls on a Thursday morning.
Third is depot turnaround. Units that sit overnight in the same outdoor row all summer age their 12V batteries on the same schedule, so a fleet tends to fail in clusters rather than one at a time. Scheduled 12V testing across a yard costs a fraction of the emergency calls it prevents.
