Why EV lug fasteners seize harder
Electric vehicles are heavy, and heavy vehicles get higher wheel torque specifications — often 129 to 175 foot-pounds where a comparable sedan asked for 90. Higher clamp load means more thread engagement under stress, and more stress means more galling between an aluminum nut and a steel stud.
Add heat cycling. A Dallas summer takes a wheel assembly from 90°F ambient to well over 200°F under braking, thousands of times. Dissimilar metals expand at different rates, microscopic welds form at the thread contact points, and after two years the nut is effectively bonded.
Then add the tire shop. Impact guns are fast and indiscriminate, and a gun set for a truck applied to an EV alloy nut will pass the spec by fifty percent without the operator noticing. That over-torque is what rounds the flats when the next person tries to remove it.
